Fohhn High Performance Subwoofer
Power for the low end: new Perform-Series high performance Subwoofers
Powerful, suitable for flying and flexible to use, Fohhn’s brand new subwoofers form the perfect complement to their Focus Venue and PT-70 concert sound systems. In combination with the new DI-Series DSP-controlled CLASS D amplifiers, the passive subs deliver precise and powerful sound.
Whether in concert halls or clubs, in stadia or at open-air events, the new subwoofers are extremely versatile and are suitable for use in horizontal, vertical or endfired bass arrays as well as in cardioid setups.
An 18″ double act
The new PS-850 is a passive subwoofer with direct radiation, vented enclosure and Non-Turbulent Port (NTP) design. The system is equipped with two high performance 18″ long excursion chassis with 4.5″ voice coil and water-resistant cones. Its nominal power rating is 2000 W.
The subwoofer is designed for exclusive use with the high performance amplifiers from Fohhn’s DI-Series: This guarantees optimal performance and protection of the speaker.
Quality materials and workmanship
The PS-850’s enclosure is made from high-quality multiplex birch plywood and finished with a black scratchproof polyurethane coating. For optional weather protection, the subwoofer is also available with additional water-repellent speaker cone impregnation. The front grille is backed with acoustic foam and powder coated in the same colour as the enclosure. On the rear of the enclosure are two recessed Neutrik NL4 Speakon connectors – this enables the subwoofer to be set up directly against a wall without the cable bending.
Additional connectors for cardioid Setups
The PS-850 is additionally equipped with two further Speakon connectors on the front. In a cardioid setup, this enables the amplifier signals to be seamlessly looped through – on the back of a stack or array. The amplifiers include respective presets for cardioid operation.
Basses with Beam Steering
The new subwoofers also work as a Focus Sub Array: When used with the new DSP amplifiers, the beam characteristics of a vertical or horizontal bass array can be electronically controlled in real time, using a PC and free Fohhn Audio Soft control software. All settings can be saved as presets and recalled at the touch of a button in changing sound reinforcement situations. No complex re-rigging is needed.
Highly versatile
The PS-850 is equipped with numerous mounting points and features designed to make transportation and on-site setup very much easier.
Stacks: The enclosure has two mating slots on the top – on the bottom are two corresponding rubber skids.
Stand use: The top of the enclosure has an M20 thread for a distance rod.
Flown applications: Four slots enable the retrofitting of appropriate flying hardware.
Vertical: The right and left sides of the enclosure are each fitted with four rubber feet, enabling the subwoofer to be positioned vertically if required.
Transport: The subwoofer is equipped with four handles on each side. Two fittings on the back of the enclosure enable an optional wheel board to be attached.
Other features: Two catches for an optional front cover, plus fitting for a cable strain relief on the rear of the enclosure.
Smart accessories
The new subwoofer / amplifier system is rounded off with a range of accessories: for flown applications the subwoofer has its own flying frame. It can also be retrofitted with flying hardware (with Fohhn Interlock System). Thanks to the Fohhn Interlock System significantly less time is spent on system setup: simple, safe, quick and without losable components. A dolly board enables secure transportation of up to three subwoofers (including flying frames). Also available are a wheel board (with SmartLock fitting) for transporting a single subwoofer, and appropriate transportation covers.
