LUMIX autofocus performance goes up a gear
With their new processor developed as part of the L2 Technology partnership between LEICA and LUMIX, and their new 24.2MP sensor, the S5 IIx is the first Panasonic Lumix camera to offer phase detection autofocus (PDAF). This camera uses a new hybrid phase detection autofocus system combining PDAF and contrast detection AF. Fast and reliable, and offering 779 zones, it is able to detect subjects in difficult conditions such as low light and backlighting, and is particularly effective in tracking subjects (even once locked, even if other moving objects are in the frame), as well as in face-to-face presentations. Continuous AF while zooming and AF micro-adjustment are also available.
Double Stabilization drastically improved thanks to the new Active IS algorithm
The Lumix S5 IIx also features a significantly improved image stabilization system, particularly suited to handheld shooting. Featuring Dual Image Stabilization effective up to 6.5 stops (in stills and video), it also benefits from the new Active IS system, which ensures very stable video recording by optimizing horizontal, vertical, and rotational correction, especially when the camera is shaking. By compensating for movements up to 200% compared to conventional stabilization, Active IS is particularly effective in conditions traditionally difficult for handheld shooting, such as at long focal lengths or while walking.
A multitude of video possibilities for cinematic quality
The Panasonic S5 IIx 's all-new processor delivers ultimate video recording capabilities, including 6K 4:2:0 10-bit (3:2) and 5.9K (16:9) at 30p, or 4:2:2 10-bit in C4K and 4K up to 60p, and even in 3.3K Stabilized Anamorphic mode, suitable for all distributions: cinema, television and all types of video production. Its innovative new active ventilation system combines a fan and a heat sink, allowing it to record unlimited times (especially useful for streaming) in a body that is still as compact, and without any recording noise. HFR (High Frame Rate) recording up to 120fps and Slow Motion (Slow & Quick) up to 180fps are also available.
A range of picture profiles, including V-Log/V-Gamut (pre-installed), are available, offering a dynamic range of 14+ stops, for incredible creative freedom in post-production.
It also features the new “REAL TIME LUT” feature that allows you to download color grading LUTs (.VLT/.cube) to an SD card and apply them directly in-camera rather than in post-production; a definite time saver for videographers in a hurry, or those who want to apply their LUT directly in streaming.
In response to requests from professional users, a multitude of video assistance functions will be able to help all filmmakers: Waveform, Vectorscope, Zebras, Luminance Spotmeter, Frame Marker, Anamorphic Desqueeze Display, as well as functions such as System Frequency (24.00Hz), Scan Sync, and Fan Mode.
White Balance Lock, 2100 Like Luminance Level (HLG), and MF Assist (available for video5 and photo shooting) allow users to shoot even more intuitively, and the focus ring behavior of compatible lenses can also be set to linear (constant aperture change suitable for video), or non-linear (aperture change depending on the ring rotation speed, more suitable for photography).
Users will also be able to take advantage of a new “Live Cropping” function, which allows video footage to be recorded using the entire sensor area, while also allowing 4K and FHD images to be cropped afterward. Recognizing that audio is at the heart of video creation, clear 48 kHz/24-bit audio can be recorded by the built-in or external microphone, while high-resolution 96 kHz/24-bit recording is possible with external microphones and XLR adapters, up to 4 channels simultaneously.
Even more professional options with the S5 IIx
The Panasonic S5 IIx adds even more professional video capabilities. Capable of recording in ProRes 5.8K directly to SSD via HDMI or USB for optimized editing without compression, it also offers ALL-Intra. It can output Apple ProRes RAW video to Atomos NinjaV+ via HDMI6, and also offers the ability to stream via wired7, wireless IP streaming, or USB tethering.
Uncompromising image quality, even in low light
The Lumix S5 IIx delivers exceptional photo and video image quality, thanks in particular to Dual Native ISO, which minimizes noise by choosing the optimal ISO management circuit, and allows a maximum ISO sensitivity of 51200 (204800 in extended mode). Thanks to the power of the new processor, ultra-fast burst shooting allows them to reach an exceptional level of 30fps with an electronic shutter (AFS/AFC), with rolling shutter distortion being minimized, and 9fps (AFS) / 7fps (AFC) with a mechanical shutter, all in RAW (up to 200fps) & JPEG (up to 300fps). A case that is always resolutely intuitive, compact and lightweight
The Lumix S5 IIx 's intuitiveness is further enhanced with a new 8-way joystick and a shortcut to the 96MP High Resolution function directly on the mode dial. Its fully adjustable 3.0" 1840K-dot touchscreen and large 3680K-dot OLED Live Viewfinder (0.78x magnification) provide an optimal shooting experience. Its die-cast magnesium alloy construction is ultra-rugged for off-road use and offers splash and dust resistance.
Connectivity has also been improved, with the Lumix S5 IIx featuring a large HDMI Type-A port and a high-speed USB 3.2 Gen 2 port for fast reading and writing. Wireless connectivity has also been improved, with 5GHz Wi-Fi joining 2.4GHz to ensure fast and stable communication with smartphones and tablets. Bluetooth 5.0 (known as BLE: Bluetooth Low Energy) is also available for constant connection with a smartphone or tablet for minimal power consumption.
The Lumix S5 IIx's settings can also be copied and transmitted wirelessly to other Lumix S5 II and S5 IIx cameras when using multiple devices. The LUMIX Sync app for iOS/Android devices allows remote control of the camera using a smartphone or tablet via an easy wireless connection. In addition to wireless control, the LUMIX Tether software allows wired shooting via USB. Users can control the camera by connecting it to a PC via USB. It allows them to view the image on a large screen while shooting.
