Samyang 12mm T2.2 VDSLR NCS CS is the cine lens version of the 12mm f2.8 featuring the same excellent optics, but with integrated gearing for video rigs with follow focus systems, and decoupled aperture. Suitable for APS-C mirrorless cameras with Cropped Sensors (CS) it is a high performing manual focus prime lens, especially suited to cameras fitted with a high resolution sensor (above 24MP).
Available mounts include Sony E-mount, Canon M, Samsung NX, Fujifilm-X mount and Micro Four Thirds (on Panasonic, Olympus and Blackmagic design cameras) offering many compact systems an affordable, high quality, ultra wide angle lens dedicated for video and film. Although the VDSLR versions have been developed primarily for video / movie making purposes, they can equally be used for stills photography. The Samyang VDSLR lens versions are rated in T-Stops rather than F-stops which is usual for cinema type lenses. The T-number expresses the actual light transmission, which is more accurate and the standard in professional cine lenses. The aperture and focus scale have been relocated to the side of the lens, to aid videographers and viewing the scales when mounted to video rigs. The Samyang 12mm offers an equivalent wide angle of 18mm on APS-C sized sensors, 24mm on Micro Four Thirds (MFT) mount. A fast aperture of T2.2 allows shooting even in lower light conditions. Optical construction of the lens comprises 12 elements divided into 10 groups including one aspherical lens (ASP) and one hybrid aspherical lens (H-ASP).
There are also three lenses made of ED glass, offering superb performance. Technologically the Samyang 12mm lenses are the most advanced Samyang lens to date. The Samyang 12mm features Samyang's new nano crystal anti-reflection coating system (NCS). These new coating provides even lower reflection factor than Samyang's UMC coatings. The NCS coating technology offers exacting process to apply anti-reflection coating more evenly on the surface of the lens. Other benefits brought by the nano crystal layer include improved light transmission, increased resistance to reflections resulting in maximum image contrast. This is applied to 2 elements in the 12mm lens. Samyang 12mm VDSLR is a great lens for landscape photography, interior and architecture photography or astrophotography where a high quality wide angle is desired. It features a removable lens hood and 67mm filter thread. It is compact and lightweight, weighing around 250g making it a perfect solution for compact mirrorless interchangeable lens camera systems.
